To speak of Nature in El Rompido is to speak of the Piedras River, the Sand Flecha of El Rompido, or the Natural Park of Marismas (marshlands). They are places where flora and fauna remain intact even with the increasing tourism rates.

We can begin speaking of the Flecha (arrow) de El Rompido, an extensive area of sand that extends in a parallel direction, and is of great value. It´s origin dates back more than 200 years ago, due to the materials that the Piedras River, tides and winds brought to it. It is a sort of isthimus measuring about 25 meters, and it is considered a jewel.

Sand dunes, crystal waters, marshlands, beautiful landscape, flora and fauna...all of these marvelous ingredients maked up the surrounding of the Flecha del Rompido. Here you´ll get the chance to see endangered species, as well as migrating birds, and rare birds. It´s flora has many different species as well.

With the rising and receding of the tides, some areas flood forming natural lagoons. This situation is what propelled one of the first almadrabas (a sort of maze built in the shore where fish and seafood remain in when the tides recede) in this area.

The River Piedras is what seperates a big part fo the coast of El Rompido with that of the Flecha of sand.
